Amazing Invisible Barn Decorative mirrors the Surrounding Landscape

In a smooth incorporation of structure and characteristics, New York design practice STPMJ has come up with the Unseen Barn, a site-specific structural folly that shows and combines with the nearby landscapes.

Initially presented as a offer to the popular Folly competition, the parallelogram-shaped framework was designed to stand in a heavy grove of plants in the Socrates Sculpture Park. Made of wood and sheeted with mirror film, the barn becomes one with nature, showing the nearby birch plants, blue sky, and signs of the changing periods.

Viewed from a distance, the framework appears almost invisible, erasing its man made structural existence. Upon nearing the building, however, audiences can see cuts in the replicated area that allow them to maneuver in and out of the framework, including a unique sense of interaction and experience.

According to the designers, the Unseen Barn is intended to re-contextualize the landscapes of the park by predicting the nearby landscapes onto the surface of the framework.

The project information flows, "The visible impression that blurs the perceptual border between the folly and the website, allows the folly to be vanished and invisible in nature, rebuilding the landscapes of the website."
