Kanas is a nature source in the Altay mountains of north Xinjiang in China popular for its wonderful natural environment established by Lakes, waterways, snowfall, jungles, and grasslands. The emphasize of the Characteristics Reserve is the Kanas Lake. Via the Kanas Glacier in Altay Mountain, the Kanas Lake is situated 1,375 metres above the sea level and covers an area of 45.73 square kilometers. The lengthy bean-shaped lake gives increase to the Kanas River which flows out for about 125 km through pristine, downhill woodlands before discharging into the Irtysh at Burqin Town. In fall, the attractive scenery jolts into a huge range of shades with gold, red, blue and green.
Kanas, which means “beautiful, wealthy and mysterious” in Mongolian, might be the most attractive resort in north Xinjiang. But many come here expecting to capture a glance of the Kanas Pond Monster, a legendary beast that plenty of guests swore to have seen. Similar to Scotland's Loch Liness monster, experiences of sightings have frequently showed up in Chinese media since the 1980's, when more guests and residents came to the place, providing plenty of reporters and fringe movement hounds even though scientists have ignored the Chinese Nessie as a large member of the salmon family.
Even without the attract of a monster, Kanas Lake is amazingly wonderful with its vivid, minty natural water enclosed by forested and snow-capped mountains. On one side of the lake, there is a 2000-meters long bank of deceased plants that have gathered over the years, taken by powerful wind and surf. The large dike of deceased plants is a unusual scene.
Kanas Pond is 140 kilometers away from Burqin County, and 246 miles away from Altay Town. You can take a aircraft to Altay Town or take a trainer to Burqin County at Urumqi, and then lease a motorcar to get there. You can also drive horse with local guides.
