Stunning Lines of Mild Show Aircraft Journey Paths

This sequence of pictures, eligible Nachtfluge, features light paths of aircraft as they take off and land across the evening air. To create each shot, Brooklyn-based photographer Kevin Cooley visited to various major air-ports in the United States, such as JFK, LAX, and Newark, New Jersey's EWR. Using a large structure camera and long exposures of anywhere from four to five moments each, he patiently waited for aircraft to complete by and creatively recorded each individual flight path.
Through this time-intensive study of sunshine and movement, Cooley created a selection of relaxing scenery in which he changes large airliners, loaded with hundreds of people, into single streaks of soothing, meditation light. Cooley says :
"Photography is by characteristics an discovery of your efforts and energy and effort. The flicker of an eye may be freezing by the shutter. Or in the case of this sequence, many moments or even hours add up to create only one picture interspersed with the routes of commercial aircraft."
You might not immediately identify the amount of persistence that goes into each picture, but, after viewing the video below, audiences will have a better understanding of Cooley's amazing patience! The photographer is a master of unique light. If you like this work, then you will enjoy his other project, entitled Lights Edge, in which individual streaks of unique light capture across night air.
