The city of Shibam, in the central-western area of Hadhramaut Governorate, in the Ramlat al-Sab`atayn wasteland, is best known for its massive mudbrick highrises. This small city of 7000 is loaded with around 500 mud houses status between 5 and 11 testimonies high and attaining 100 toes great, all designed entirely of mud stones. The unusual sky line that the high-rise structures provide upon the city has gained Shibam the name "Manhattan of the Desert."
